John Scott in Concert May 18 – Premiering New Score for Silent Classic

Composer John Scott will conduct the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra in a concert of his film and television music on Sunday, May 18 at 7:30 pm in the Haugh Performing Arts Auditorium of Citrus College in Glendora, California.

Included will be the world premiere of Scott's new score for the 1920 silent-film classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde starring John Barrymore.

Also on the program will be orchestral suites from four of the composer's best-known scores. Two are from films based on Jules Verne classics: Rocket to the Moon (1967), and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1997). Also scheduled: Music from Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984), and The Final Countdown (1980).

Scott, reached at his Los Angeles home earlier this week, said that he planned to conduct the 80-minute score for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde without the aid of a click track or streamers, which is often the case with scores for silent films because of the split-second timing required. "The score is technically demanding, but I'm confident that we will stay in sync from beginning to end," said the composer.

Scott has spent most of the past two years in Europe, working on various projects including a third string quartet and a second symphony.

Ticket and concert information is available at (626) 963-9411 and at http://www.haughpac.com.
