"Killing Me Softly" Composer Charles Fox Releases Memoir
Booksigning will also highlight Academy archivist Warren Sherk's new research tome by Marilee Bradford

LOS ANGELES—Emmy- and Grammy-winning composer/songwriter Charles Fox will sign his recently released autobiography Killing Me Softly: My Life in Music on Saturday, April 9th, 3pm–5pm, at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in West Los Angeles.

As an added surprise, Fox – whose many iconic TV themes include Happy Days, The Love Boat, and Laverne and Shirley; film scores such as Goodbye Columbus, Foul Play and Nine to Five; and pop hits such as "Killing Me Softly With His Song" – will perform selections from his vast repertoire of film and TV theme songs.

Also featured will be respected composer-orchestrator Warren M. Sherk, a music specialist at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Margaret Herrick Library. Sherk will speak about his newly released publication, Film and Television Music: A Guide to Books, Articles and Composer Interviews, a definitive resource of information on more than 100 years of writings devoted to the subject of film and TV music.

The event is presented by The Film Music Society to help further the legacy of film and TV music, and to raise awareness of the importance of film music preservation. Says FMS President, composer David Newman, "We're excited to celebrate two new and distinctive books: One is the long-awaited memoir of one of the most renowned film and TV composers of our time, and the other an indispensible source of film and TV music history."

According to Newman, the FMS often sponsors events such as symposiums, concerts and screenings to make the public aware of its preservation efforts, which reach far beyond manuscripts and recordings to include writings, photographs, the spoken word, and other historical aspects of the art form. The nonprofit was founded 30 years ago by entertainment industry professionals and is the leading organization for film and TV preservation in the world, with members in more than 20 countries.

Barnes & Noble is located in the Landmark Theatre complex of the Westside Pavilion, 10850 West Pico Blvd. For more information, contact The Film Music Society at (310) 820-1909 or info@filmmusicsociety.org.
